Distillers Grains on the Farm (at Nelson County Extension)

By Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (other events)

ABOUT ABOUT

As the bourbon market continues to grow, there has been an increase in the production of distillers grains. These can be fed to livestock and are present in many forms—often referred to as slop, stillage, wet cake and more.

With the short shelf life of distillers grains, it is possible that a farm may have leftovers which it was unable to feed to livestock.  If this happens, there are options on how to manage the leftover distillers grains.

Join us for a half-day workshop and discussion designed for the agricultural community on how we can use distillers grains for livestock and manage the excess.

Presenters from the University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture, Food and the Environment and Department for Environmental Protection will break down what you need to know to keep a farm in compliance. See the agenda here.

What will be covered?

· Feeding Distillers Grains

· Lagoons and Water Quality

· Land Application and Waste Management

How we manage and interact with our land, air and water resources can have large impacts on the health of the environment.
