ABOUT ABOUT

With the bourbon and spirits industry booming, many distilleries have greatly increased capacity and production. As spirits production increases, so does the production of by-products, including distillers grains.

Distillers grains have, historically, been fed to livestock or applied to land as a soil amendment. However, with the increase in production and short shelf life of most forms of distillers grains as feed, an excess of distillers grains may be produced than can be utilized.

There are alternative ways distillers grains can be managed. Methods may include using distillers grains as a feedstock for an anaerobic digester, drying the distillers grains to maintain shelf life as feed for livestock, discharging to a permitted wastewater treatment plant, or disposing at a solid waste landfill.

Join us for a half-day workshop and discussion designed for the distilling industry on the options for managing distillers grains.

Presenters from the Department for Environmental Protection will break down what you need to know to keep the distillery in compliance. See the agenda here.

What will be covered?

· Managing by-products at the distillery and beyond

· Water quality management options

· Land application and waste management options

How we manage and interact with our land, air and water resources can have large impacts on the health of the environment.
